sustainable leather from waste materials

100% olive leaf tanning

durable

long-lasting

100% made in Europe

NATURALLY SUSTAINABLE

The tanning agent consists of renewable raw materials, some of which are still being disposed of with energy input (burning). This means that there is no competition with food production and, in addition, there is a significant reduction in the burden of the growing regions.
Every year, around 12 million tonnes of olives are harvested in Europe. The major part is used for the production of about 2 million tonnes of olive oil. The natural quantity of leaves is about 1 million tons, enough for up to 600 million square meters of leather!

Environmentally friendly

O’leaf tan consists of 90% renewable, natural raw materials. The few remaining chemicals are physiologically and ecologically harmless.

Ultra-modern sewage treatment technologies

Waste water is treated professionally and gently while still in the tannery.

Short transport distances

because the raw material comes from Southern Germany or Central Europe and the olive leaves from the Mediterranean region. The skins are usually processed fresh.

Protection of drinking water

because surface water is mainly used in production.

Vegetable fats

The fat liquors used are based on renewable raw materials.

Hides are by-products of the meat industry

In contrast to fur or exotic leather, cattle are bred purely to obtain meat and milk. Hides are a by-product of slaughter.

No use of chrome

because the retanning is based on vegetable synthetic tanning agents.

Olive tree leaves are the basis of the tanning agent

Every year they are the residue of the olive harvest. The alternative method of disposal would be combustion, which is harmful to the environment. The extraction of the tanning agent is very environmentally friendly and offers a perfect recycling of the waste material.
